The Mask, a green-skinned character in a yellow suit and hat, holds fanned-out stacks of cash in both hands with a wide, manic grin. The top box holds a statement of sudden wealth or windfall, and the bottom box the absurd or excessive thing being bought with it, so the joke is the disproportionate spending. People use it when reacting to unexpected gains or playful fantasies of splurging.
